Accompanying Program
On the trail of the Pleiße memorial march. A short excursion into the environmental history of the GDR on the basis of the Pleiße in Leipzig
The environmental history of the GDR still shows gaps in its exploration to this day. Especially the narrative of an inevitable "socialist ecocide" has recently given way to a more differentiated view. Following the trail of the Pleißegedenkmarsch in 1988, the environmental history of the GDR is exemplarily traced based on current research. In addition to industrial pollution and oppositional protest, the attempts of the GDR to protect its environment are in the foreground.
Meeting point: Leibniz Monument in the inner courtyard of the University of Leipzig campus
