The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is the official “Partner Country” of the 50. German Historikertag. Representatives of the UK, British Historians, Research Institutions as well as British history and culture will be present in Goettingen. The VHD, the Royal Historical Society and the German Historical Institute will be cooperating in several ways.

Great Britain has strong historic ties to the state of Lower Saxony, the city of Goettingen and especially the Georg-August-university. The university was founded during the time of the personal union between the Electorate of Brunswick-Luneburg (Hanover) and the Kingdom of Great Britain. Therefore, the University is named after Georg August, Electore of Brunswick-Luneburg (Hanover) and as Georg II., King of Great Britain.
