„History and Memory“: Concentration Camp Neuengamme and its Afterlife

The concentration camp Neuengamme with its 80 outposts was operated from 1938 until 1945. Around 100 000 people from 28 different European countries were incarcerated, at least 42 900 of them were killed. In 1948 most of the buildings were demolished in order to establish two jails on the compound. For a long time the history of the Concentration did not get told. However today it serves as one of the biggest Concentration Camp Memorials in the country.
