Europe’s biggest convention of humanities

Between the 30th of September and the 3rd of October the 47th “Deutscher Historikertag” will take place in Dresden. About 3000 German and international guests are expected for the biggest European convention of humanities. It stands under the auspices of the Minister President of the Free State of Saxony. At the opening ceremony in the Semper-Opera House the Federal President of Germany is going to attend.

The conference will give a broad view about the topical state of the historical science in different areas, like the ancient and contemporary history, business- and social history or the cultural history. In more than 50 different sections and over 300 lectures the Historians are going to present their current research projects and results.

The next generation of scientists will also introduce themselves at the PhD students’ forum.

Topical social questions in the focus of research

The organizers chose a very prominent topic of the present with the motto „dissimilarities“. From a historic point of view social, business, religious and ethnic dissimilarities and the resulting problems are going to be discussed. Long-term developments and culture-overarching phenomena are helpful backgrounds for public debates about the alleged new challenges of our days.

Explore Dresden and its surrounding regions

In cooperation with our partners we get to offer you a diverse excursion- and collateral program. Explore the Saxon Kings’ old residence city and its current transformation. Get to know the excellent cultural areas of the river Elbe valley as a crossing point of culture, science and technology or just enjoy the autumn in one of the greenest cities of Europe.

To take part in the 47th “Deutscher Historikertag” you need to confirm your place at our partner the “Dresden Werbung und Tourismus GmbH”.

Fees

The charge for all four convention days is between 20€ and 70€.

Daily tickets cannot be booked before. You can buy them directly at the convention centre for 20€.

Please note: The daily ticket cannot be used to ride public transport for free.

(DVB-ticket = Dresden public transport, bus and tram)

Accommodation

For the conference we reserved different price ranged accommodations in hotels and guesthouses. You can book your accommodation with the „Dresden Werbung und Tourismus GmbH“. Students can also book beds in the international guesthouse of the "Studentenwerk"/student services.

Childcare

During the meeting times free childcare is available for the convention visitors close to the convention centre.
