This is why, for centuries, scholars have been editing sources constantly in order to provide historical research with the best possible basis for its work. The base material, the editing processes and the end products (i.e. editions) itself are indeed subject to certain trends. In addition to numerous new editions of already edited sources, there is also an increasing number of editions focusing on novel material. Whereas until a few years ago, the “negative selection of feasibility” (R. Schieffer) was a criterion that decided that widely transmitted sources were often not edited at all, or at least not “successfully”, this no longer seems to be an issue with the new “digital” possibilities regarding the processing of larger amounts of data, evaluation, visualization, etc. But no matter whether digital or print: to this day, the basic editorial effort to provide texts for scientific purposes, and to come as close as possible to an original source, taking into account its history, has not lost any of its appeal. The session, which brings together contributions from the domain of historical research itself, but also from related disciplines, would like to focus on current questions and problems in the field of editing. The edition as a selection of source material and (at least indirectly) as anexpression of a respective opinion, nfluences research and shapes our image of a certain era, a region, a person etc. The same applies to the constituted text. Editions thus canonize and mirror prevailing beliefs, narratives, conventions and contemporary scientific interests. The presentations focus on  currently prepared projects of various kinds,  but also offer theoretical reflections. The spectrum ranges from dissertation projects to large-scale editorial endeavours funded on a long-term basis.
