District tour: Nazi forced labour in Leipzig city centre

Download iCal

Leipzig was a center of the arms industry during the Second World War. At least 75.000 foreign forced laborers were employed in the factories and many other businesses. Forced laborers were also present and visible in the heart of the city. The neighborhood tour will present aspects of Nazi forced labor based on a few selected locations in the city center. What was the everyday life of forced laborers like? How was the administrative system organized? And how were the forced laborers perceived by the German population?

The tour has a broad thematic scope, but mainly focuses on forced labor in the public sector: Former camps and workplaces in the city center will be highlighted, as well as the role of the city of Leipzig.
