The Völkerschlachtdenkmal, inaugurated in 1913 as a national monument, reflected the official stance of influential political forces towards their own national identity under the various political systems that governed Germany for almost 200 years. This guided tour explores the different stages of reception of the monument and the historical event it commemorates and raises the question of how to appropriately deal with such former focal points of highly nationalistic historical narratives in contemporary times.

Admission and the guided tour are free of charge.
