Transfer is a historiographical research category and methodological approach. Transfer concerns historical competence development goals and represents a discipline-specific university performance dimension to be profiled. Also, the present-boundness of history is only plausible in the context of transfer considerations, which require reflection on the historical-cultural conditions of researchers and the life-worlds of historical learners. In history didactics, the idea of transfer is genuinely considered in pragmatics, among other things. Moreover, research and teaching in history didactics suggest that numerous transfer concerns are also constitutively laid out beyond the school context. This includes consideration of societal interests, cooperations, intensified scientific communication, and recognition and exploration of the historical-cultural environment, which is historically preconfigured, even outside the scientific and scholastic context. The concept of historical culture suggests that we simultaneously study, shape, and are involved in our subjects of research. The section approaches the transfer category through a synopsis of historical theoretical, historiographical, historical didactic, historical cultural, and higher education-policy perspectives. It is assumed that subject-specific and transfer concerns addressed to the subject, which are attributed increasing importance in higher education-policy and society, require history-specific profiling and differentiation. To this end, the section aims to open up the transfer dimension(s) of history in its disciplinary breadth and thus reveal the intersections, interactions, and specifics of the sub-disciplines of historical studies.
