What they have in common is that they did not form a separate state in the new order of states after 1918 (like the Baltic republics) but became part of other nation-states due to the Treaty of Versailles or due to military conquests (like the eastern Polish and parts of the western Ukrainian territories). The politics of history about this is as different as the current constitution of the states of Belarus, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, to which these territories belong today. The aim of the panel is a double refraction. On the one hand, a separate presentation of the occupation period from 1939 to 1941 or the politics of history during this period will help focus attention on forgotten places, events and historical layers. On the other hand, historians from the concerned countries, as well as from Germany, will have their say, which should enrich the dialogue and foster controversial views. Since this European area is often neglected in general education, the section is also particularly suitable for history teachers.
