At the same time, the success model of the Federal Republic continues to struggle with ambivalences, the causes of which seem to lie in a peculiar way outside of its time and space. As soon as they occur and are observed, they are regarded as relapses into the "old," as milieu-specific aberrations, or even as anthropologically conditioned crisis rituals. Therefore, it seems appropriate to fixate on that which continues critically, which is usually understood as overcome (or in the process of being overcome) in the dominant narrative of progress: nationalism/völkische community concepts, anti-Semitism, racism, authoritarianism, anti-pluralism, heteronormativity. The continued existence of these phenomena should not be seen as a "lingering afterglow," but should be understood as historical forces sui generis. The underlying hypothesis is that a closer examination reveals not their gradual disappearance, but rather temporally and spatially embedded, constantly modulating developments. This opens up other focal points on the history(ies) of the old Federal Republic. The planned panel aims to take a closer look at some groups of actors and fields of topics in the initial decades of the Federal Republic. Specifically, suppressions "from success," discriminations, segregations and deliberate exclusions can be observed, particularly among those groups that were not part of the "Volksgemeinschaft" (national community) before. In addition, structural, institutional and knowledge formations can be identified that also speak to the independent continuation of anti-democratic, anti-liberal, anti-pluralistic and racist tendencies.
