DESCRIPTION:Since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, there has been an intensive discussion about false hopes and expectations, which are certainly also characterized by wishful thinking, in the supposed security of a pan-European peace order, which has proven to be a fragile fact in its own way. Demands for a fundamental paradigm shift do not only concern the political sphere but are also raised in the relevant academic discussion. Thus, controversial debates developed about the necessity of a (historical-) scientific change of perspective on the topic of war, peace and international security, in which constructivist and cultural-historical concepts are also put to the test and questioned. This section is in line with these current academic debates. It deliberately wants to take up cultural-historical approaches to questions and discuss their applicability in a comparative way. In order to be able to classify the scholarly debates, it focuses on a trans-epochal comparative view of the disintegration and (re-)establishment of European peace orders and thus pursues a double interest in knowledge: With which processes, patterns of interpretation and debates was, first, the disintegration of peace orders connected, how did historical actors discuss and handle the supposed security of a peace order at the moment of its disintegration? Second, what practices and instruments were used to (re)establish peace orders and what role did notions of "false security" play as a horizon of experience and a frame of reference?
